Everyone complains about spam like it's the end of a the world, When someone spams, it gives the other person the chance to see through there defenses, and in time skill SHOULD over power the spam.

That observed, it could be used in a non-OOC capacity - say, you'd have to talk to a Droid in the Archives or something of that nature (and yes, this'd require a perma-NPC), who would then update students on the status of other members when asked, thus keeping them informed in an IC fashion.

I'm with Sared - this would be ridiculously exploited unto death. Bad enough that we have that issue with jump-kicks as it is. I don't think we need to add any further insanity to that which already exists ;)
