Problem resolved, seemed to be the cause of the ''cheaper'' version, the NO CD patch killed my copy of JA, managed to reinstall it with my severely damaged original disks.. now it works.

Whenever I get on the server, its fine about 3-5 minutes into the game I disconnect with variating error messages like :

CL_ParseServerMessage: Illegible server message

Edit: I can't connect at all any more, stuck at -awaiting game state-
when I exit the JA MP console displays the same error:
