I quickly tried to implement it but there are several problems (other than clipping): the saber is too high on the belt/hip, and it appears even if you aren't supposed to have a saber (like guests/hopefuls). Ok, I'll change it so that the /emcomm emote stays indefinitely with the commlink near the mouth until you press crouch/jump/etc.

The "automatic" emote (played when using the /comm <target> <message> command) will stay the same (the commlink stays near the mouth for 1 second).

Hmm then perhaps the separate files you downloaded for manual installation were only partially downloaded too (and so, corrupted). Try to get the files from another Internet connection..? Or get them from a friend on some IM software (MSN, Xfire..). Or just try again later.

It was meant to be like that.. but I agree it's not very practical for high levels. For the moment, you can Heal just when you're swinging your saber: it won't trigger the animation and you'll continue to heal while moving freely.
