  • A scientist within the ranks of the Republic military requested assistance from a medically-trained member of the Jedi Order. Since Master Invictus was indisposed with Council business, I was dispatched accordingly.
  • A Republican weapons research facility can be found within the capital city on Alzoc, concealed by a storefront designed to make the premises look innocuous. Once the storekeeper was provided with a pre-determined passcode ("The sun doesn't shine on the Talz"), I was escorted to a turbolift which took me up to private levels, guarded by Republic troops in uniform.

  • Per mission parameters, I engaged with Commander Tevaro of the Republic military. He observed that much of his work was of a sensitive (and therefore classified) nature, but he wanted a second opinion. He proceeded to show me a holographic representation of a chemical.
  • By design, this substance appeared to be a chemical bonding agent, designed to be paired with another chemical in order to be aerosolised and dispersed. Theoretically, any chemical thus paired could be distributed in a populated area without awareness among that population. In benign form, it could be paired with any number of beneficial substances to vaccinate a community, or treat an epidemic. However, if weaponised, it could be used to disperse chemical weapons that can be absorbed on skin contact, or by absorption through the lungs.
  • Doctor Tevaro indicated that the substance was purely theoretical, rather than an actual chemical currently in the facility's possession. He observed that he would be contacting the Council should they require further assistance.
  • However...after departing the facility, I was approached by one of the guardsmen who had been protecting the laboratory. He expressed that the building was, in fact, a weapons research facility, and that Alzoc III had frequently (and covertly) been used as a weapons-testing site, given its remoteness and low population density. He expressed concern that the scientists there were planning to test another such weapon on Alzoc.
  • Furthermore, he expressed that, contrary to Doctor Tevaro's statements, some of the gas I had been shown has been stolen from a facility "which does not exist", suggesting that the Republic has stores of this chemical bonding agent available to it - and in the possession of a weapons testing lab. The trooper expressed his concern - and was clearly scared of being observed discussing this with me - but requested Jedi assistance in learning more, and preventing any testing, particularly against the local population.

It seems evident to me that there was more going on than the Council was initially made aware of when first contacted by these scientists, and judging by the discussion I had with the trooper on guard at the facility, they were similarly not up-front with me during our consultation.

If indeed the Republic is researching and planning to test aerosolised chemical-based weapons, such a thing stands potentially in violation of weapon proliferation treaties, but also poses a potential risk to the local population of Alzoc III - the Jedi Enclave included.

I would therefore recommend the following:
  • Covert surveillance of the weapons research facility in the capital city.
  • An investigation to determine whether any such chemical agents are indeed on-site at the facility (or otherwise stored in the capital), as well as an attempt made to locate their place of origin.
