Joining as a casual player
Hi everyone!
Some of you might remember Neb Ka'zels, the young ithorian who appeared here around December-January. That was me.
When I joined, I felt very welcomed and a bit overwhelmed at the same time. I was having fun, but on the other hand, I was unsure what exactly to do because I have never roleplayed in any game prior. That's why I might have seemed too shy. I left the servers even before I could have been initiated.
Recently I thought about ::JEDI:: and my experiences again, and decided to give it another shot. Overall, I loved the experience I had and enjoyed the community I interacted with. I have a lot of stuff to do in the upcoming months, but I hope I can free up some nights here and there to play.
I decided to ask some questions this time.
Is it okay if I can only play casually, at least in the beginning? Like, once a week or so.
Can I play the same character that I started last time? As I mentioned, he wasn't even initiated yet, and however, I changed a few things in his background story, I'm really fond of Neb.
Can I change my forum name to my in-game character's name?
Thank you for your answers in advance - may the Force be with You!

Re: Joining as a casual player
Hey Neb, good to have you back!
To take it step by step, once a week should be alright, as long as you dedicate enough to time to RP with others and, when/if you get initiated, write journal entries while also trying to attend several classes. As time goes by it'll be preferable to be more online, but we all believe that RL comes first so, with a little effort from your side, you could make it work.
Hopefuls don't grow up, so it'll be alright (it's been only around 4 months for not such a big deal; you could twitch your age a little bit if you find it appropriate).
Also, after you will get the Discord invite, ask a councilor/high councilor to change your name!
I hope I helped, if you have more to ask please do add me on discord (Sne-hvide#8903)!

Hello Neb, I hope no one minds me answering some of these questions from my POV. But a Mentor will probably soon reach out to you.Ben Slzak wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 11:10 am Hi everyone!

Also, I've read that there is a Discord server. If someone could DM me an invite here or on discord (BenSlzak#7613), it'd be awesome.

So "Is it okay if I can only play casually, at least in the beginning? Like, once a week or so." The answer is YES. Real-life always comes first and however, you want to approach ::JEDI:: is up to you. You will always be welcome here as you obviously had no trouble with the rules last time. Activity will be important after initiation more than hopeful stage.
"Can I play the same character that I started last time? As I mentioned, he wasn't even initiated yet, and however, I changed a few things in his background story, I'm really fond of Neb." - This is somewhere in the rules and any council member will answer this. I for example don't think you've been inactive that long. I'd say you can return as the same on and make up a reason of your leaving for sometime ((remember your character does not age while not initiated)). This reason is not a MUST but I think it will help you with your own RP immersion.
The rest questions will be answered by any other mentor. Hopefully, we get you back NEB! - With love, Donan.

Re: Joining as a casual player
Thank you both for being so kind and helpful!
I'm waiting for a mentor and a Discord invite - until then, I'll start playing again, probably this weekend.

Re: Joining as a casual player
Hey Ben,
It's good to see you returning, I personally didn't realise you were 'inactive' exactly, like if you logged on tonight or tomorrow I would be able to pick up with you right where we left off.
One thing I would note is that as far as off-screen things are concerned, before you are initiated it can feel a little isolated as you have no way to communicate with people in this community outside of the IC servers unless you have people you can direct message on discord (That is, if you have added anyone) or posting in OOC chat which is fine for the odd question or two but not really for sustained conversation.
I would recommend asking one of our council members for an invitation to our discord server, where we have a channel that all newcomers have access to that will allow you to see which mentors are available for questions and even ask questions publicly on the channel. Before I was initiated, I also had access to an outside channel about the Mandalorian series that made me feel a little bit more like a member of the community which ultimately is what I wanted to be. It felt nice, almost a little bit closer.
As far as RP is concerned, just come on the server and enjoy yourself. Think up cool things to do as a child character and act them out. Involve others, familiarise yourself with the environment, socialise, engage in classes and outings whenever they become available and just generally have fun.
It's my opinion that it's less about how active you are and more about the things you do when you are active. I personally had a lot of fun any time I interacted with Neb. As Anya says, RL is the most important thing so just do what you gotta' do and we'll be around when you want to kick back and pretend to be a Jedi
Looking forward to seeing you around the Rannon Praxeum!

Re: Joining as a casual player
Ben,
Honestly, this is one of those moments where you need to contact the Council, because while we all have our own opinions, they don't mean a damn thing if the Council doesn't give you permission to do this, and is understanding of your issues with activity. They're the only ones who can answer all your questions, and consent to your requests.
Nice to see you around again, though!
