I like the idea due to me being pro realism, but truly in my whole time on. Jka before I was introduced to JEDI I never got a saber lock.

How are saber locks actually initiated? I mean, I have the basic idea, but it doesn't always work. What, according to the code or whatever, makes the lock begin?

The frequency of a saber lock is determined by a value in a .sab file correlated to each specific saber. If there is no value given, it is set at the default value. Aknaross may know more about this.

You have to attack at the exact same time, there might be another factor in there like direction of the swing, but i know timing's a huge part of it.

This made me suggest another idea. What if we make locks happen more often? I don't mean always or anything, but I only make them once every 40 battles.

Making them less strict in... whatever value it reads... would be cool.

The idea is interesting though as was pointed out, were at the mercy of the engine, as for the kata being used by the loser of a lock, perhaps there's a way to make it where the loser gets put into the animation where their blade is knocked aside forcefully, preventing them from attacking, I still would rather keep a chance of dodging though.

Perhaps the saber being knocked from the hands would be an idea from losing the lock? or the animation that you get when you get parried.

I looked through the code aaaaages ago and came across the saber functions coding. If I remember correctly, you have to be striking from opposing angles at roughly the same time, and even then there's a chance that you won't actually lock - though the chance of this can be increased in a .sab file.

Personally I don't see anything unrealistic about being able to move after being beat by a saber block. If you catch a butterfly and leave the net open, it can still fly out. I'd suggest avoiding the saber lock altogether if you are looking for a more effective means of fighting your opponent and a less epic waste of time.

Saying that, I rather enjoy the suggestion you presented, Alkur.

It's simple, and gives more control rather than the technique where real life physique plays a part (even if minor) in the execution. If you ask me, it rather defeats the purpose of playing a game, if scaled up. Next you'll just have the hopefuls get off our chairs and run around our bedrooms instead of running around the grounds, eh? Or repeatedly pressing the mouse button to walk? Some people can't do these things so quickly, and that shouldn't reflect on their character.

You don't see anything unrealistic about winning a saber lock and not being able to move while the other guy can?
