How is Heavy Metal related to Star Wars? Compare it as if I wrote an article about frogs, but I had a small exert explaining my out-most lust for a female duck.. On a more serious note, the two subjects do not intersect at all, nor do they have any reason to. I actually think the "Your Character's Song" thread is a bit silly to be brutally honest. How can you combine musical notes with an individual character? I'm not sure I understand the purpose other than that of juicy imagery as your character slowly walks towards a foe in a black cloak. Anyways, enough rambling..Darrekk wrote:1st This isnt death metal . This is pure HEAVY METAL . 2nd 5 years oldValon Rachius wrote:Maybe I should be more intimidated than I am. When I saw the thread I thought it would have been on an RP-related note. A song that may play if JEDI were to have it's own movie(s). I was expecting a series of classical or lyricless songs or even some Star Wars tracks that the person felt best suited their character.
Looks like it turned into a "what's your favourite band?" or "what music do you listen to?" thread.

Mind you some people at least made an effort and who's choices were actually quite accurate!

Chracters song is relative to the person who created the character. There's no such thing as star wars music considering that star wars doesn't exsist. The size of the star wars galaxy is massive, picking ANY musical style could be accurate. Try not to judge, especialy since it's a fictional story and you really don't know more about it than any of us.
Just because you prefer one type of music doesn't make someone elses choice lesser. Speaking of which "Classical music" doesn't have much to do with star wars either. As for music sounding "Starwarsy" Joh williams wrote the songs, but that is relative to everyone here. No offence to anyone in particular but I get really sensitive when it comes to music.
In respect for the thread I won't say anything more about this, and I'll even post a song.
EDIT: I happen to like metal, as well as a whole lot of other types of music so

As no flame was intended, so I'll keep this minimal. I was not suggesting that if you enjoyed the "Heavy Metal" genre, you should stop listening to it, since it isn't Star Wars; In fact that's a good distant from what I was pointing out. I am very considerate of other people's preferences towards musical genre, yet when it comes to Star Wars there is a fine line between that of Scream-o and your typical Cantina Music. Secondly, I wasn't claiming the utter stupidity of this thread.. but perhaps it should be named "What is your favorite type of music?" as Vantus was implying. When it comes to Star Wars music, there are boundaries..

[2pence] You're absolutely correct. But seeing as we are a Star Wars clan and seeing as Star Wars music is by majority - Classical, then it isn't absurd to expect that any "Theme Song" brought into a Star Wars context to be relative to what we know is Star Wars from the movies.Atrux Nuro wrote:Chracters song is relative to the person who created the character.
I think there are two sides to this thread.
The RP-side where the songs brought forward would fit perfectly to a cinematic demonstration of our characters. Or perhaps a song that would accompany your character, should JEDI be imagined in typical single player RPG style.
The other side to this thread is the AMV and montage side. A person chooses a band song because the lyrics suit their character. (Even though the lyrics were written by somebody else and probably about something entirely different). It also doesn't seem to occur that the song or music style itself could not in any way be endorsed as a "Star Warsy" and in no shape or form could ever be played in the background (Galaxy Music Pack style) during an RP without bringing about a wave of raised eyebrows and facepalms.
I prefer the RP approach myself.

Indeed,
Just as an example from the song you posted, Atrux.

If this is the sort of music that represents Atrux, I'm pretty shocked. No one is criticizing your personal choice of music, but I highly doubt our characters would have such a strange correlation to the music being posted here. The fact is that the Jedi Order is a monastic, secluded organization that isn't "mainstream". There are really few RL songs that coorespond to what Jedi might appreciate. In reality, most real life themes (love, passion, emotion, turmoil, war, death) would be considered heretical. Therefore you understand why I have trouble accepting many of these posted songs as actual themesongs. Without criticizing those who did try to pick pieces that could reasonably suit their characters, it seems this thread is just turning into a messy compilation of the sort of music often sporadically posted in the misc OOC thread anyway, so I think posting should desist. The anger swells in my guts
And I won't feel these slices and cuts
I want so much to open your eyes
'Cause I need you to look into mine
Get up, get out, get away from these liars
'Cause they don't get your soul or your fire
Take my hand, knot your fingers through mine
And we'll walk from this dark room for the last time

Nice point of view Vantus,I personally prefer Instrumental songs for my character than a normal song with lyrics that have no sense.
This has nothing to do with my character, you might like the video Vantus.but not the song.

Yeah, my earlier selection was a bit iffy for a hopeful or even a young boy. Here's an orchestral version. Not by the original writer, but I think a much better (maybe even more complex) interpretation.
Then why post it in a thread dedicated to our character's potential Theme Song?Xenon wrote: This has nothing to do with my character
Next Cloud Strife joke please! I'm ready for it!Xennon wrote: you might like the video Vantus.

On a more related note (and because I feel my ranting won't bring the topic any more back on track).
Although I still stand with Sky Blue - Marr's Theme as a great candidate for Vantus' more personal "inner" Theme, I do feel that Left Side Drive is a fantastic representation of Vantus from a broader scale. Perhaps the way Vantus views the monotony of day-to-day life. It's cheeky, mechanical and repetative yet, somehow, strangley upbeat given those odds.

With a purely theatrical view of this topic...
Meditation: Autumn Interlude by Amethystium
Space travel/idle time: Live in Vanilla by Boy Robot
Introduction/Suspense: Keep it in the Family by Hybrid
Though ultimately, if it were to be a movie, I think E.S. Posthumus would be a good selection for the score.
Personally I think the era that the setting is in should have more of a new-age/neoclassical/electronica feel. Organic, yet synthetic.

Song I picked actualy picks Atrux perfectly in my opinion. Explains why he acted out a lot.
As many different cultures there are in star wars it's not for anyone to say what ALL the music would sound like
. Besides, you could change the vocals with violen and wind instruments, slow it down a few beats and it's classical music
