If anyone doesn't find this badass/amazing, please go visit your local GP. This was the "light-saber demo running un-tethered on DK2 using an OptiTrack motion capture system for position tracking, and mirrored over network for recording purposes."

Would be cool to hear you guys' thoughts about whether you'd like to see something like this bigger and better in a full fledged game with movement to a larger extent...

The Future.

Just thought I'd share this with you guys...

I'd have far too much fun with this.

Blaster deflection doesn't look so hard now. XD

I brings us to the new question, "are gamers going to be in better shape than athletes?"

http://www.virtuix.com/

There have been a few articles to come out recently on the topic of the gamers of the future. Will gaming be the new athletic competition. With so many new opportunities to literally step into a fantasy life, how many will still watch football when they can watch zero gravity basketball. The concept of a virtual reality is in its beginning years. Me personally, I believe that once gaming like this video becomes a reality for commercial prices, first world countries are going to have a dramatic change in what people consider entertainment.

10-15 years is all we need for VR systems capable of some SAO stuff... I'm telling you. Look at how fast phones turned into mini computers.

Valve's gonna steal our freedom and souls, but this does indeed look like an exciting development. The next step up for gaming will be a more pro-active approach in physical movement inspired control. The motion sensors of the current consoles are Pong to what the near-future will hold in regards to this type of gaming.

Thanks for sharing, Voh. This is the best physical lightsaber simulation I've seen yet -- the most practical so far.

We can honestly do better than that treadmill contraption based on the tech we have. If we go full on Matrix/SAO style, then people need to keep fit on the outside and inside. I'd imagine the treadmill is good for now... but in the future stuff will get moved to chairs with restraints, and then further no chair but some form of body restraints so you don't even up jumping off your bed when you're in the virtual world.

All I can say is... I hope Kendo and Bojutsu comes in handy.
