Close Up Def.: A single character taking most if not all the place of the screen.

Episode 1 : Nute Gunray on the ship's screen.

Episode 2 : R2-D2 when droping from the Naboo Fighter

Episode 3 : R2-D2 while flying over Coruscant

Episode 4 : C-3PO when speaking to R2

Episode 5 : Luke Skywalker on a Taun taun

Episode 6 : the Shuttle Captain of ST 321

Ok I'm gonna /hopefully/ correct you on some of these based on the script and from my memories watching the movies.

EPISODE I

Axem Keigoku wrote:Episode 1 : Nute Gunray on the ship's screen.
Episode I Script wrote:
INT. REPUBLIC CRUISER - COCKPIT

In the cockpit of the cruise, the CAPTAIN and PILOT maneuver closer to one

of the battleships.

QUI-GON : (off screen voice) Captain.

The Captain turns to an unseen figure sitting behind her.

CAPTAIN : Yes, sir?

QUI-GON : (V.O) Tell them we wish to board at once.

CAPTAIN : Yes, sir.

The CAPTAIN looks to her view screen, where NUTE GUNRAY, a Neimoidian trade

viceroy, waits for a reply.

EPISODE II

Incorrect. Just watching Ep2, it is an unnamed Lieutenant onboard the Royal Starship informing the Senator (Her handmaiden in disguise) they are arriving or going to land shortly (Forget which). It is not a minor character but it is the first close up of a character nonetheless.

Since the shuttle captain counted for Ep6 I believe that this lieutenant should be the correct answer for Ep2 or else Ep6 would be the Death Star Commander, Moff Jerjerrod or Darth Vader.

Episode I : the actual answer is Nute Gunray. The Captain is the first character we see speak, but is not in Close-up format.

Episode II : R2-D2 was the first Close-up in the Theatre version (as said in the Commentairy of Georges Lucas), but the scene of the Officer informing the Senator of their approached was added to the DVD version.
