Force Template Guide

Post by Soh Raun »

Foreword:

The following guide requires the RPMod Account System to be used (which is the case on JEDI's server).

As of version 0.3.0, RPMod includes a revamped Force Powers selection interface, accessible through the Profile window (as usual). This interface is only available with the RPMod Client.

Major changes:
  • The left part displays information about your Account
  • The old Save/Load Template system from BaseJKA has been removed, but your Force template is stored on the server after clicking on Save Template, so that all your settings are loaded when you login.
  • The fixed amount of Force Points has been replaced by the XP (experience points) system. This means that through each level, you will gain XP to spend on new powers. The only drawback to this is that you cannot apply 'mid points': you cannot add only 1 point to a power, you must buy the full level.
  • An optional Template Locking feature (enabled on the JEDI server) makes the choice of new powers closer to games like KOTOR. This feature is explained in detail below.

Template Locking - the principle:

When you learn something with patience and efforts, you don't easily forget it. With Template Locking, when you choose a Force power, you can't remove it and get the points back, possibly to spend them on another power. The choice of a new power level is final. Only admins with SetAccount privileges can change the template again (and for the moment it is not really easy to do it).

However you can still lower the level of any power you have already acquired. For example, if you have Push 3, you can still go back to Push 2 if you need to. That doesn't mean you have forgotten how to use Push 3, it simply means you control the strength of your Push ability.

Using the Force Template UI:

The Template Locking feature fully integrates with the Force Template UI (user interface). When you have some unused XP, the powers you can "buy" appear in green and a message (in green too, on the left) explains that new powers are available. You also get a message on screen if an XP gain gives you access to new powers. (Note: powers in red are those restricted by your Class and Level).

You are not forced to choose new powers as soon as they are available, you can wait to have more XP to buy another power. When you are sure of your choice, select the new power level as you would normally. On the left, the Save Template button is replaced by a Validate Powers button. Clicking on it validates your choice of one or more new powers (this can't be cancelled without admin privileges, as explained before).

When the validation completes, the new powers become blue or white again, meaning that you have learned them, and the Validate Powers button becomes Save Template again. You will probably want to click on Save Template just after validating (this is not done automatically for various reasons). Eventually, your new powers are now usable in game.
