[DONE] Actions scripting

In IRC and several other clients, you are able to emote actions using a command. For example:

Code: Select all

/me sighs.
outputs
IRC wrote:Corinth Alkorda sighs.
I know this kind of command can be implemented in our own way, spitting out something along the lines of ^(distinguishable color, maybe 7 (white))<client><action>. If we could implement this in general type, it would increase the speed of our actions, and distinguish them as said type better, I think. Soh?

Might take sometime to get use to, but I second this.

They have the same function in Xfire also :)

Ok, done in development version :).

This made me think.. do you think emotes should say something on this channel automatically? Like if I use /emsit, it would automatically say "=Soh=Raun=:::JEDI::: sits".

I don't think so... Because if you do the emote, you see the person doing it, making the action statement unnecessary.

It'd be like when I'm walking from the cantina to the dojo saying ::Walks from cantina to the dojo::

A bit redundant, me thinks

Also, there are those times when you mess up:

Say you /emsit, then you press c (or what ever button) and the character stands up, then you do /emsit again because you wanted to stay seated. You would get the initial ::sits:: but then you would get it again when you sat the second or third times. It would become repetitive and annoying.

Good points.

i think there talking about other things like "sighs" there isnt an action for sighing, i think they mean instead of typing in all that, "::whatever you wanna put::"

its easier and faster to just put, "/me does a little jig"
it would also have a different color so it would be more noticable, i hate when people don't notice what I'm doing and are like, "you didn't do that, LIES!!!"

((sorry, my grammar is evil))

/me

3 characters

:: :: 4 characters (5 including shift)

^1::^7 ^1:: 10 characters

option one seems a bit TOO lazy. Part of the RP process here is the self discepline, and while it would be a cool script or cool addition, it seems perhaps a step too far.

On the other hand, it would add a level of consistancy to peoples emotes...

Also I take issue with the Grammer of that suggested format... /me sighs *ugh!*

perhaps someting more like /: sighs so an element of the end product is in the script, but it's still a time saver??

I fail to see the timesaving element, unless you are someone who uses colors in their actions.

shift + tilda + / + commandname + text

versus

y + :: + text+ ::

Virtually the same, and the former adds the hassle of opening the console.

If this is meant as an alternative, whereas you could set default colors for the action, then I understand. As long as it doesn't completely replace regular typing.

It is also advantageous to type actions as part of a phrase, something that could NOT be done with such a feature in the console.

I'm fairly sure this is going to be scripted in with the /say command, which means that there isn't going to be a need to open the console.

Also, what if you're trying to give another object an action? I'm rather fond of my ::Teapot beeps:: bind ;)

I have to say outright that I prefer using the method we have now. If people want to use the newly implemented version, I say more power to them. However, I think that using the :: :: brackets should still remain acceptable in our community for expressing actions.

I have not much new input, but that I agree with Jamus. One thing that I'd like to see, would be if the /me command would appear as grey text. So what I'm asking for, is whether you can add new colours or not.

I agree with Jasmus and Larkit.
