NPC Spawning for Training

Quick question: Is there nothing we can do to make it possible for initiates/padawans to have the ability to spawn in training bots somehow? On Yavin we had a whole room for it, and now, the only way it's possible is if a knight or higher spawns it in for you.

Possibly an item, or spawn generator like on Yavin? Just wondered, and I realize we don't want to have to repack the map.

Having the potential for abuse was the reason why the spawning room for the Yavin map had a security restriction.

I think that if an item could be created that spawns something to train against that would only go after the spawner then fantastic. But I think that may not even be possible, and if it is, will require a good amount of work, considering it'd be made from scratch.

Otherwise, no, I don't think that student members should have the ability to spawn things to train against.

Personally, I have an issue with spawning, its unrealistic and generally has no real significance-- the student just hacks at it, or blocks shots until they're bored or the NPC gets sabered to death. Aside from a basic entertainment factor NPCs for training have little to no practical application.

Pros: Npcs offer a little distraction and static ones are useful for training with Telekenisis and so on.

Cons: Fighting one is totally pointless but still diverting for a time.

Solution being implemented once Soh is back from vacation: A Droid with a holographic projection bank in it's chest allowing students to request NPCs suitable for training.

The issue of rank restrictions is still being worked on which is why this droid hasn't appeared on the server. For now, ask a Knight + nicely.

I agree 100% with Master Tekeil - NPCs are basically what you resort to when nobody is in the mood to spar with you. And, much as he observes, it's a hack-and-slash approach - the abilities used to spar a bot are irrelevant to those used to spar against a human player. Invariably, there's little relation between the two, so the excuse that it's 'training' isn't one that strikes me holding particular weight.

On Yavin, Kaelen and I would often use the Kyle's to arrange them in certain ways to work on jumping maneuvers and sequences and so on. Additionally, if no one happens to be on server at the moment, or is AFK for a time, it does take up time to have this available.

I agree that it's not realistic, but I never said it had to be Kyle or anything. It could be a droid for all I care, just as long as it stands and explodes when it needs to. :p

I'm with Iverian 100% here. I used to use the non-combat droids all the time for a mixure of reasons, whither it was practicing a new move to working out a new saber routine (more for fun there) or telekinesis training to jumping training.

The argument for ask a master nicely doesn't hold anyway as 90% of the time they are either too 'busy' or say no.

Glad this is being looked into though!

To be honest - I never used spawned bots on Yavin.

They're fun for practicing moves on and certainly DO help in terms of plotting attacks and judging distance and improving accuracy.

The reason I never used them was because:

1) Kyle took WAY too long to kill, especially with a puny training saber.
2) Bots that actually attacked, could wiggle their sabers as if they were glitching, and down you in 0.865 seconds from Full health and Shields.
3) Once you were KO'd (which happens a lot because of their 1000000 HP) The bot then ran after the next closest player.

Big improvements to Bot A.I would need to be made before it's going to impress me and I don't even know if that's possible.
