Not to mention the gap you'd create between realization and reaction in fights. The jumping button can be let go of in mid jump anyway, so you can already limit this. Limiting beforehand leaves too much room for error and would indeed create a too long learning process for those currently used to the current jumping system.

I'm for suggestions that enhance already existing game mechanics, but fundamental changes like this one would most likely be a bad idea in the long run.

Where it would be useful for push and pull, as in not having to downgrade your points; yes. I don't see it being useful for jump though for reasons already stated, which also apply to push and pull. Push is often used for pushing away rockets or anything flying at you, having to charge it first would take too long.

Also you can basically already jump to whatever height you want pretty easily, and pretty precise with some practice.

I'm with the mass on this one and don't think I'd want to see this.

Though the idea itself is creative and pretty cool. I just don't see it being very useful for us anyway. It would take too long in certain situations if you had to constantly charge a power, but that's just me. Though I can see what you're saying with push/pull. Definately no for jump however.

Valon wrote:I agree with Sared that the old style of Force Jump was more faithful to the movies, since it was always seen as an explosive power. But I think this suggestion falls under the same category as altering the sabering system to include block meters and manual blocking. It would be more realistic, but might make it more complex than needed.

A good suggestion, though. And I do miss that older, more powerful jump.

These type of suggestions always end in a specific result: We don't want the sabering system altered.

But, Force push a la TFU would be so cool! xD

I don't see much of a difference between your method and the current one. The longer you hold space, the higher you go. It's the same thing only JK3 allows for more control and no delay, so you don't have to guess how much power you need to charge before you jump to something. I'm against it.

I'm against it.
Aye, interesting thought though.

Sared Kilvan wrote:In every canonical instance that we see Force Jump being used, it is always more of a 'springboard' action. A set amount of energy is being used to leap a set amount of feet into the air or forwards.

The closest translation that I've seen of this is in the original Jedi Knight and Mysteries of the Sith games. You hold down jump to charge the amount of upward thrust desired, then release to go up. The higher rank of Jump earned, the more upward thrust you could charge beneath your feet.

Currently Jump functions more like jump jets. You hold it down, then release when you want to stop moving upwards, or until your power's rank or FP limit is reached.

TL;DR version: Make Jump more like it was in the original Jedi Knight game.
That sounds pretty cool, I've always thought the animations needed to be changed, maybe even getting rid of the annoying sounds too :D

Sound change, sure, but I'd rather it be left as it is.

The sound could be alterd though I guess, if we can get something subtle and less annoying.
