Lock-on

Basically, what I would like to see in RPMod (and I'm sure many others) is a force lock-on. - How it could work, if possible:

Code: Select all

/rplock

Looking at somebody and typing it in would let you use force only on the target you've locked.

/rplock again, looking at the target, and it would turn off.
Could even make it use Force points.

Would prevent from unwanted pushes/pulls to spectators etc during spars and whatnot.

If the engine can hold this idea, I don't see the bad side of this suggestion. It would make knight+ spars less messy. ;)

The duel function in the game already does this, I believe, but I heard there are stability issues that make the server crash, not sure though.

It has many other uses. For example, today, in the simulation thingy, Olim was lifting me up with force hold, and when Zeak pulled, we both fell. Shouldn't have happened.

So agreeing with this. I don't know how many times somebody has accidentally pushed me.

Im skeptic. This feature would only further decrease the level of skill needed to combat on JEDI. If you really suck and accidentally push everyone around, learn to aim. Same goes for most powers.

I agree and disagree. Sometimes your character goes beyond your limits. Some things are hard to /rp last minute.

But also there's the learning factor. Some people can get better at fighting than others can OOCly just using practice. I doubt that I or many others could ever be as good as Master Kevari though, for example.

If possible I'm for this idea. Think it could be useful in different situations.

I'm inclined to agree with Master Xan.

Not only that, but I roleplay students pushing things incorrectly or accidentally as "lacking control" and if you want to push one target instead of many either arm accordingly or drop to force push/pull 1 so that you don't go nuts with it. Teaching control is part of using the force and teaching control is part of playing the game. It doesn't need to be streamlined.

We're talking about knight+ spars here mostly. I honestly doubt you're going to adjust all powers that could affect spectators in a spar. Then again, if you don't use this command either, it's the same deal.

There's ample opportunity to hide from most powers, except for the level 5 push spree, for the rest, learn to dodge people. Knights use AoE's for a reason, harder push and better hit chance. If there's anything, make a hybrid between lvl 1 push and higher level pushes, namely that you can toggle the lvl 1 area of effect on or off, even for higher levels. For the rest, beats me how this can be implemented.
