In-Game Server Tracker

While talking with Master Serevarno earlier on the galaxy server, I asked him if there was anyone on the Temple server. I had to minimize the game, pull up a browser, go to the website, and check the tracker there to find out, and as such I thought how much easier it would be to have just a small addition to the drop-down console that would perhaps list activity on an extra server or two (configurable by the client).

So, that's what I'm suggesting. An in-game server tracker allowing you to check the status of other servers without having to leave the game.

One quick way is use x-fire as I do, save the servers to your x-fire favourites and use them as trackers, then you only need to bring up x-fire when you minimize rather than have to load up your browser and wait for the site to come up, but I like the idea of having a tracker IN-GAME as well.

Minimize. Download X-fire, create an account just for the tracker, login, and finally look. Damn that's tough.

Adding a server tracker to the console? /Support

Depends - will it generate more lag/FPS issues than we already have? Just pulling up the tab menu tends to add potential lag as it is...

Nice idea, I support it.

Good point, it should definitely be toggle-able or an "Optional Feature" if this is the case.

No it shouldn't, if it's anything like MB2s.

No, it shouldn't have any impact. It's a good idea, not really a priority but it would be a nice addition anyway. And definitely possible technically speaking.

Or you could just have Ultra Utility. Have the Galaxy server saved there and named "Galaxy" and the same for the Temple server, just with the different name. Then when you want to know if someone is on the Temple and you're on the Galaxy, just type;

!queryfavserver Temple

And you automatically get a list of everything from that server, and the last thing you see is the players list. That's how I check it. You can also go straight to the other server nice and quick as well, by typing;

!gotofavserver Temple

And there you go. Just have UU messaging turned off so there is no message about the program in-game. :D It also doesn't affect anything like your ping or FPS.

Now that's a good idea, and UU can bring up your console and minimize your game if needed. AND YOU CAN ADD YOUR OWN MUSIC TO IT!

Hey everyone.

I use jam tracker for whenever I need to see who is in the server. Perhaps that can be a quick fix until something better comes along. Otherwise, I support the idea as well.

Yeah I agree. Honestly, I keep my game in windowed mode, with Msn, the holonet, and the forums open. I think it would add too much to the lag.

EDIT: Oops, just read Soh's post, still I would prefer it to be optional at least.

Some of us are systematically opposed to using trackers or UUs. I think Tim can attest to that when he came in with his for the first time.

Yeah, I can definitely attest to it. That's why I simply said have it so it's not saying anything. I mean, a lot of reasons why people dislike JAM/UU is due to the annoying messages it tends to post in-game (not just ::JEDI::) but they tend to not realize you can turn it all off, and simply use it as a server checker. That's all I use it for now-a-days.
