Left-Handed Jedi

Hello everyone,

I am curious to know if there was/is a way to hold or use your lightsaber primarily on your left instead of your right. I am not sure if that will throw off the mechanics of the game or even if it's possible with the engine, but I've seen a lot of things here in ::JEDI:: I didn't think JK3 could do.

When I was younger, just getting into Star Wars, I was more dominant with my left and I noticed every jedi I read about or seen was a "righty" for lack of a better word. Is that the way they were instructed to by the order or was it just right handed jedi are more commonly seen? I don't know if something like this could be done but I think it would give to the RP experience. Not everyone is right hand dominant, some people like myself, are ambidextrous. Not to limit this with the lightsaber mechanics but with \emreach \emwave, subtle things in that matter. Anyway, just a thought. :D has anyone else shared this idea?

You'd have to make a whole entire new set of animations. So, very unlikely it'd happen.

This was already suggested and decided it's practically impossible. Good suggestion though. I supported it before.

Right handed people are more common. It has to do with the efficiency of how your brain works and culture. In Rome way back when most people thought of the left hand as "evil" pretty much. The word for left hand I think was "Sinister" might have the spelling off though. A lot of the world has a strong Roman influence which probably influenced the writing of Star Wars, realistic or not.

Hm, darn.

Aside from the dueling aspect of the game, what of \emreach and \emwave action? Is there a way to just mirror or reflect that animation so in-game the actions are show with your left rather than your right?

@Atrux - Your post came right before I asked my next question, heh. Well my question has been answered. Thanks. :D

You could talk to whoever is doing the animation pack, I think Cyril is doing part of it. Hope that helps. I wouldn't think there would be a problem. I don't see a problem with just Role playing your left hand though.

I think that we could redo some anims if they have some extra time.

/support.

Yeah, I've been doing that from time to time. It was just a thought to see if there was a quicker way around it so instead of (::grabbing the fruit from the table with his left hand::, ::waves with his left::, etc) \emreach and \emwave, it could be a \emleftreach or \emleftwave.

The only way to make you duel with your left hand is having dual sabers, and in the right hand an empty weapon. That would leave you with the left only, but you'd duel as if you were having both.

This idea was suggested some time ago, and was pretty much shut down due to the general feeling that the amount of effort needed to create entirely new animations--because apparently you cannot simply "mirror-invert" animations--would not be worth the trade off for just having a character who is left-handed.
Also, I'm not sure if anyone actually touched on the added programming necessary to allow what handedness your player-model will be.

It also has the potential to unbalance lightsaber combat.

Ah, understood. Thank you, Master Tekeil.

:: blablabla :: is your friend. Tyren's left handed and everytime I want to rp him reaching for something is say ::reaches for that stuff with his LEFT hand::

For me its somewhat the opposite. I'm a natural leftie, so often times when it comes down to specifying actions that involve both hands, I have a brain fart because I always imagine my character doing the primary action with his left hand, which isn't accurate, because I've decided Alkur is a rightie.

If you are going to learn how to use a lightsaber, you're going to learn it with BOTH hands so you don't cut your wrists off. Most swordsmen are ambidextrous because of this.
