Auto Deflect

A couple ideas for this:

Deflect if shot at from behind.
Auto ignite to deflect.
Switch to lightsaber and ignite to deflect.

Shot at from behind + high enough defense = placing lightsaber behind your back to block the shot. Like the scene from EP3 where Anakin kills all the separatists he is shot at by a battle droid and he places his lightsaber over his shoulder and behind his back to deflect it.

Shot at + lightsaber not ignited but in hand + high enough defense = deflection. Self explanitory.

Shot at + lightsaber not in (melee) + high enough defense = deflection. Also self explanitory.

No idea which order these would go in.

That's actually a pretty neat idea. Though I think it should be for either def levels 4 or 5.

I like your idea and support, and yeah this would be for level 3 + I guess.

That was his precognition/sensing abilities, so if this is possible I'd say only with like sense 2 or 3+

Having your lightsaber not equipped should mean that you don't get deflection from saber defense at all. As it stands, with this game engine, avoiding shots is needlessly easy, but so far as unignited blade? I suppose that could be automatic but making players, you know, press the 1 button if they think they're going to be shot at is not all that big of a deal. Shot in the back deflection? Maybe for level 4-5 but saber defense isn't the sole power in this kind of ability. You'd need exceptional senses and speed, so dictating it from one power seems silly and if you aren't looking at who's going to shoot you then ... turn, or if you hear them shoot ... move.

I mostly like Defense the way it is minus lower levels not deflecting the bolts themselves, as well as Level 4-5 upping your ability to parry to an astronomical level, making you a countershot wonder who steamrolls anything in your path, heh.

I don't know, the saber system is hard to balance and it doesn't try hard to be balanced. I'd have to think on this, but as it stands, abstain.

I don't really agree with the * exceptional senses and speed * A Jedi should always be ready to counter any danger. You don't have to be a Skywalker to do it...

Just because they should always be ready too, does not mean that they have to be ABLE too. Sorry to say i actually dislike this suggestion. As Tomoran said, if someone's going to shoot at you from behind, simply turn. Saber defence is too fast already. To change it to be able to automatically block when you dont even have your lightsaber out aswell? No thanks.

I have to agree with Azra'el and Tomoran...

I have to agree with the no switch to saber and auto ignite. But if your lightsaber is on and you have a high defense level, you should be able to deflect a blaster bolt coming at your back.

Qui-Gon: "Perhaps I killed a Jedi and took it from him."
Anakin: "I don't think so. No one can kill a Jedi."
Qui-Gon: "I wish that were so."

Cool enough idea, makes logical sense to me. Maybe even adjust the chances for auto deflect. Something like def3=30%, def4=60%, and def5=90%. (Hey, even a Master can be surprised every now and then ;)) If it's easily implementable then I'd say put it in.

In the long run though, this isn't really something that I can foresee JEDI using on a regular basis, so if it was another toggle then it would be turned off most of the time.

Unrelated note, I'd love to see more brainstorming on the ideas themselves. A lot of folks have been coming up with some great ideas that could really use some good old-fashioned brainstorming to really process and develop the idea. I would love to see less 'yay' and 'nay' posts, and subsequent posts hashing out said yays and nays until the train of thought gets completely de-railed.

Keep up the good thinkin' Jenny!

Don't see the point to this, really. It's too easy to deflect as it is now.

I actually forgot to mention the second half of this suggestion which would be high enough defense = ignition to block a saber attack or into an automatic saber lock, seeing as how not too many people like the idea I'll leave this be.

Not really....... if you shoot someone's saber (as people often do) it will obviously block the shot.

But honestly in deflect practice the master is aiming at your saber so you have a chance. In the field defense 1 doesn't count for crap.

If you have defense 0, say goodbye.
