Chat Distances

Post by Oberon »

I think Alehk managed to achieve it, but I was wondering how it is possible to make chat that is out of earshot invisible, or at least near invisible outside of the console.

Check the Client Configuration page, particularly the rpc_chatRange_mode Cvar.

What are the units for the ranges? 128 is described as "close", but how close?

There's no specific unit, it literally is just "units" of JKA gamespace.

128 units can be approximately described as just a little bit shorter than the width of the hallways in our Enclave. So if you had your back pressed against the wall and were talking across the hall to someone doing the same on the other side, you'd be considered at "close" range and the text would be at 100% opacity. Anything beyond that distance in any direction means the text begins to fade.

You may want to use the "/where" command to see your coordinates at different points in the map, and compare the numbers to get an idea of what they mean...
