[LSAT] Cyclic Lightsaber Training
Greetings, everyone,
From now on, I will be scheduling regular LSAT sessions, usually for 1-2 hours at a time, to be held every week. Some of these will simply be sparring sessions, others will carry specific instruction or focus, and others will be constructed around battle simulations and combat scenarios designed to put your skills to the test.
I will note that I won't always hold these sessions myself: members of the LSAT Department can hold them in my stead, but the idea is that we have regular meetings to further your skills development and understanding both of lightsaber combat and of battle techniques in general.
I will therefore be posting regularly-scheduled events in this thread, so do keep an eye out for the next one. They will, of course, also be added to the comport's calendar.
Any questions, queries or suggestions...well, you know where my office is!

As mentioned during our last session, I have another simulation I'd like us to work on. In teams of two, you're going to be attempting to infiltrate a heavily-guarded facility to retrieve a VIP, or a piece of information, or something precious (we'll vary it to add a little spice to the scenarios) and extract it/them with all due care.
This will require far more than just your skills with a lightsaber: you'll need focus, tactical thinking, infiltration skills and a whole host of other abilities that you'll need to employ to be effective. Come prepared!

I would like to host another lesson for you on .29, since it's been a while since I've been able to do so. Although I have a few simulations to run with you soon, I thought we'd start slow and do some training exercises in the Enclave for a week or two first.
Therefore, if you're so inclined, please meet me in the Arena at 1630hrs GST. Arrive promptly and dress casually, in clothing you feel relaxed and can exercise in. I have a few interesting drills for you all to try, and I'd also like to go through some of the basic principles of the Soresu form, so we can then later move on to Ataru and Djem-So.

Following on from our previous simulation, I would like to invite you to another: we have practiced rescue, so now I would like us to work on escaping. It's always possible that a Jedi might be neutralised and incarcerated as a consequence of operations in the field, so it'd be a good idea to learn (and practice) how best to get out of those sorts of circumstances.
Let me know if anyone has any questions or thoughts in the run-up to the class.

- Minoda - Attempted a good stealthy approach, but once seen, tried to evade, and jumped into a mine, which blew him up. Escape unsuccessful. Clever approach, very careful, but risked too much by staying still when approached by Donan, and therefore 'spotted'.
- Vuren - Attempted a distraction/negotiation tactic, whereby he sought to persuade his captors that he had no intentions of escaping, but needed medical attention (due to self-injury). Captors took him to the Medibay to receive medical treatment, and after a short while, Vuren managed to retrieve his lightsaber from one of his captors and attempted to escape. Engaged his attackers, and was 'killed' in the process.
- Vale/Ayyagella - First team effort, the two attempted to take a cautious approach, with Vale following Ayyagella's lead. Unfortunately spotted by Minoda, which led to an attempt at escape, leading to Ayya's 'demise'. Vale avoided detection for a little while longer, but ultimately was 'killed' in the same spot as Ayyagella, failing their attempt. A good strategy, unfortunate merely in the timing.
- Donan - Managed to capture and disarm Minoda in the early stages of his attempt, but did not restrain the guard, only disarming him and stealing his commlink. Used his stolen weapon to destroy mines in his way, though this could have potentially alerted other guards to his presence. Managed to retrieve his lightsaber from Ayyagella, and then fought his way past them to escape into the upper levels of the facility, eventually reaching the shuttle on the surface and escaping. Only successful attempt of the session.
- Zyli, Saay and Neb - First attempt was an outright failure, with all three being 'shot' fairly quickly (thanks to an AT-ST courtesy of Master O'ren). Second attempt was far more circuitous, with students employing a mix of deceptive tactics and lengthy evasion. Did however shoot themselves in the foot by creating a false alarm near the detention area, which informed the guards that they had indeed escaped. Managed to neutralise a number of their captors, but ultimately fell victim to mine traps, or in Saay's case, to the unflinching horrors of gravitational pull.

This is only intended to let you have a go with them, and give you sufficient instruction so that you understand the strengths and weaknesses of the staff, as well as the means by which you can use one yourself.
Hopefully you'll find it illuminating. We'll start at 1630hrs, as always. Please arrive at the Arena promptly so we can get started! If you have any questions or queries, do let me know!
