Level of Exposure: None
- Jedi received a distress call from a near by Republic research facility
- Upon arrival, the signals were found in a facility with one deceased and a wampa running rampant inside.
- Rescue team was able to track down the sole survivor, a researcher in the secondary base, where the rest of the team was found.

After breaching into the inner most portion of the research facility on the second floor, we found a sole survivor of the incident. Said researcher had a tree with him. This tree was clearly strongly related to the Force, and has been handed over to Sage Master Kuuroc for further investigation. The scientist was taken into custody for the time being at the Dunedeen temple.
Furthermore, I was able to obtain information from the terminal on site relating to the project, wherein the scientists on site attempted to gain 'power' from the tree. Attempts to unlock this power sources were met with no success, per the journal entries of the scientists.
What we do know is the tree holds a sway over animals and holds a strong presence in the Force, though it holds no intent one way or the other. Creatures summoned unfortunately were wampas, but we confirmed as we departed the facilities that tauntauns also seemed enthralled by the tree.
A final note, as we began to leave the area, we witnessed an unmarked starship clear off from the facilities airspace and away from the area entirely. We do not know who the ship belongs to, or its classification. We are unsure if the ship is a republic vessel or not.

Summary and Actions

In my opinion.. the facts laid out show that this tree is in some form an artifact, resembling the nexus' that exists at the Temples. I have heard notes of a similar tree that attracted students and hopefuls alike to the Rannon praxeum, and similarly the nexus' at the Dunedeen temple. I believe that these must be related in some form or fashion.
Further, it seems whatever the researchers were after, it was relating to the Force that is held within it. The power that exists in, say, a kyber crystal seems eerily similar, though without a 'voice', so to speak, inside the tree. If a kyber crystal imbued with the Force can act as a conduit for our lightsabers, it seems to reason given enough time the researchers may find a way to harness the power, but without the senses to know its stability, could cause further harm.
My recommendations are as follows...
- Interrogate and extract information from the researcher in custody
- Continue to study the plant, and its effect on the wildlife on Dunedeen
- Continue to monitor the airspace for any unauthorized vessels, particularly interested in the research facility or any other sites we know to hold a strong presence in the Force that are independent of the Jedi Order

- In Short: The Jedi Praxeum on Rannon had received/intercepted a distress call from a Mountainous Region on Duneeden.
- The original area pinging the signal out was found abandoned and bloodied with only a single wampa left, as well as a holorecording of a massacre from said wild animal.
- A secondary, larger facility was discovered, housing a large group of Wampa. After navigating, and striking down hostilities, the group was able to locate and transit the lone researcher out from the facility unharmed.

I was only privy to the alert sometime after, and was called by Councilor Mirkal. The mission was simple enough for a group of Jedi to report on and investigate the intercepted ping. What we did also know going in was that it was a distress signal from a research team.
Arrival on shuttle, we were met with quiet, and a slightly de-powered and unkempt facility building. Padawan Eo was able to slice the main door open, and let the company of Jedi inside. From there we were met with a Wampa that had to be put down from its irregular aggression.
We investigated further, coming to find clues that led us to a larger facility off to the side. This one had far more death present, and we can see where the larger number of researchers and wampa's had been. It wasn't made into a nest, so I knew we didn't stumble into a home for the beast. It looked as though they had broken in.
When we got power back to the facilities elevator, we rode it down, avoiding altercations just to spot a lone researcher with a force latent tree. They were very adamant to not suspect the tree, only making them more suspicious. This slowed things down a bit with removing them from the area and leading them away, only to be ambushed by a great deal more. It was clear that the tree was the center cause of this, but the researcher refused to depart with it, or leave it in custody of the Jedi Order.
In short, we defeated the mass of Wampa, and led the Researcher to safety. No one present on the group was harmed physically.

In my opinion..
[As listed above for summary]
My recommendations are as follows...I believe under this case that we do confiscate the object from the Researcher. Allowing civilians to have harmful force artifacts can come with many consequences; even non-civilians such as government officials should understand the danger it could post to them. Self-Interest Mercs, Private Interest Groups, Fiends, and even mental warping are all possible and plausible outcomes from holding onto these objects. It's safer in the hands of the Jedi.
- We claim the tree, and place it into our Vault within the Archives.
- We send it to Ossus and allow the Council of First Knowledge to take it in, and provide research over it.
