((Community Meeting))

Post by Amalia Feyn »

Greetings JEDI Community,

We’d like to invite all current and former members to attend an upcoming Out of Character (OOC) community meeting, where we’ll discuss the current challenges facing JEDI and explore ideas for moving forward together.

The meeting will be held on the Temple server, and RP will be temporarily suspended for the duration.

A poll is included above with three suggested times—please vote for the one that suits you best. Multiple choices are available and the timeslot with the most votes will be chosen. The poll will run for three days.

We encourage open, respectful discussion and welcome thoughts from everyone, whether you're active, returning, or simply interested in the future of the community.

Current Agenda:
(This section will be updated with final discussion points before the meeting.)
  • Current JEDI timeline, including any changes to explain stagnation with characters
  • Character aging and progression
  • Creative Freedom (ex. Dark Side RP)
  • Recruitment strategies to bolster JEDI membership
  • General discussion points for JEDI’s future
We hope to see you there.

UPDATE: Confirmed time for the meeting is; 461.02 @ 1700 GST

Will certainly be there! And will present an idea I had offered to council a very long time ago for breathing life back in to JEDI and give it advertising it needs and deserves.

This is was and always will be the single most immersive and incredible Star Wars RP experience out there.

Hello everyone

Attached is a transcript of the meeting that occurred on August 2nd (461.02 ABY) at 1700 GST, as well as a summary of the topics discussed, and proposed solutions the Council will begin to move forward with.

Discussed topics:
  • Current JEDI timeline, including any changes to explain stagnation with characters.
    • Given that past Padawans have already put in the effort to make new characters, the Council and community proposed that to avoid retconning time and events that have already passed, the year of 461 ABY will be extended to last until January 1st 2026.
    • Prolonging the year will allow Students more time for to catch up on classes, mission experience, and RP growth that will better reflect their approximate time in the Order.
    • At Life Day this year, the idea of a IC New Years Eve celebration was considered for 462 ABY.
  • Creative Freedom (ex. Dark Side RP)
    • The Council clarifies the position that Dark Side RP is generally allowed for smaller, personal arcs. Events that occur on a local scope that are not expected to impact the greater galaxy are encouraged and can be done without council permission. Upon Knighting a JEDI member, the council is imparting implicit trust that said player is capable of writing such content in a lore-friendly and tasteful manner for the good of the community.
    • Given the historical impact and significant philosophical detail imparted upon the Sith in the Star Wars Galaxy’s history, any use of a Sith character will require permission of the JEDI Council.
  • Support for Knights (Instruction on Admin Commands,
    • The Council has noticed a pattern in the past that once a character reaches Knighthood, much of their progression, storylines, and content aimed toward them has halted drastically. They have also been held to an unreasonable standard of creating content (classes, missions, training a Padawan, becoming a productive member of a Department, among other tasks) without being properly compensated for their efforts. Moving forward, the Council will ensure that all members, including Knights and Student Admins, will be duly compensated for doing their part in helping maintain the livelihood and content generation in the community.
    • To help ease the apprehension Knights may hold for creating content, tutorials, detailed documentation, and other educational media will incrementally be made available to help potential content creators better understand the admin commands in RPMod. It is the Council’s hope that this will help streamline and increase the volume of content provided so that all members have a chance to help uphold the responsibility of creating content for one another.
  • Recruitment strategies to bolster JEDI membership
    • Recruitment will be taken with a “staggered approach.” The Council wishes to ensure that the community can comfortably serve the needs of its current members before we actively begin actively recruiting a large number of potential residents.
    • JEDI members are generally discouraged from actively attempting to recruit members from other RP communities out of respect. However, if the topic of other communities comes up, a member of JEDI is allowed to impart their experiences and opinions of JEDI.
    • Posting videos on social media (primarily YouTube) has been particularly successful in the past. JEDI members are also encouraged to create or acquire their own media (in-game pictures, videos, art commissions, etc.) and disseminate it so long as it does not break the rule given above.
  • Use of AI
    • The Council will not seek disciplinary action against members who wish to use AI to assist in content creation. However, the Council would ask that members not use AI output without review/fine tuning and to draw from their own creativity whenever possible. We understand that adding off-screen aspects to roleplay (such as artwork, class/journal entries, etc.) can be time consuming, and do not wish to bar members from using tools to help alleviate these tasks if it means they will be more active in the community.
If anyone who was not present at the meeting, or was present but did not have all of their concerns and questions answered, please feel free to open discussions below!

With his love's last breath, she too exhaled a tale:
A new sun rises from the sea to flood the land in light...
Raising the mother's shining soul as blessing, these spirits light the dark to cull

Many times for eons yet to pass, the day will fade and night again will fall
But when it's darkest and again we thrash within its grip
Again the sun will rise
those spirits come to save us all

Regarding the timing for the comport clock, since we are in fact going with halting the current "year" until the end of this one, how will the dates be measured out, especially when it comes to lessons?

Will the year reset to "461.01" at the start of September or will it continue until 461.152?

I may be misremembering something but did we ever touch on departments? I feel there's a ton of potential in them to be early direction seekers for people interested in different stuff!

Right now for example in the medical wing Nulin is listed as a attending, someone still learning ans at the early stages od his training while ultimately wants to one day be a healer and beyond!
Security wing too, just to brag on Mirkal and keeping us padawans in good spirits, allowed us to join as different aspects ,so we can go on missions that involve those skills!

This is all to say places like the Force department and archives for people more book learned, and really all of them, should have things that they offer to begin climbing. It would give us more diversity and a bit more backbone to the jedi we create!

... it continue until 461.152?
This--I've followed up with Soh already, who indicated this is likely possible from a technical perspective.

We didn't really touch on this, but I couldn't agree more! I remember when they were originally rolled out :D

We want to fill the vacant HoD roles as soon as possible. Master Archivists has just been filled by Shu Ra, while Aranna has returned as Master Healer.

Something I would like to suggest that could potentially help those who are Knights and above, who could potentially expose themselves to burnout.

Allow those who are already Knights/Masters to make a second character who would start as an Initiate.

So they don't always have to RP their Knight/Master characters. Instead, enjoy the classes with the rest of us and the joy of growing up with new characters.

So if they feel like they need a little break from teaching, they can keep their Knight level character and RP their youngster for a while. Eventually, after years pass, that character becomes a Knight.

That's when they need to decide to either kill off one of them to be able to add a new Initiate level.

Have it be completely optional for those who would like to do it. You would also automatically add a revolving door of extra Initiates for years to come.

The secondary thing I would like to suggest and see happen is to add ::JEDI:: discord tag. You prob saw ADH next to my name from the community I RP in.

It has a short advert and an invite link to Discord. It is unlocked when the Discord server reaches 3 boosts. We have seven, so we got it unlocked. It's a small advert that is accepted by everyone in RP communities and Discord in general...plus it would be nice having ::JEDI:: next to our names. :)

Provided screenshot of how that looks.

Going off Mirkal's posted summary, I have shorter thoughts on the first four points and longer thoughts on the fifth.

Timeline:
I fully support the idea of prolonging the timeline, and would support exploring the idea further in the future.

Creative Freedom regarding Dark side RP:
With time comes temperance and those among us that would have done cringe edgelord stuff with that have either already gotten it out of their system or have matured since. I support Mentors having the privilege to use these powerful elements of Star Wars storytelling with guidance and coordination with the Council and their fellow mentors.

I completely agree with the caveat of 'anything but Sith without Council approval' as the standard, and trust the Knighthood to use this to tell good stories.

Support for Knights:
  • Sitting at the player seat of the table shouldn't stop because one earns GM privileges.
  • More documentation and tutorials is always a good thing and I'm happy to support this however possible.
Use of AI:
I don't have any serious thoughts to share apart that I am not a big proponent of generative AI art, yet. Please just quality check your work and get some help/feedback, we have lots of talented digital artists here and JEDI is the perfect greenhouse for learning these tools to make all sorts of art. I also recognize and appreciate that it can help lower the barrier for some.

Recruitment strategies:
This is something we discussed while I was on the Council and with Amalia's blessing I'd like to make the proposal public.

I've told the story a million times before, but I discovered JEDI thanks to a readme in Atlantica when I downloaded it from jk2files. Seeing the level of detail, quality, and hard work that had gone into it, accompanied by that little note that Scizo left saying "Made for the JEDI community". That alone was enough to motivate me to seek out this place because I wanted to play in the kind of sandbox that inspired *that* level of creativity.

I'd like to propose that the Council starts publishing JEDI assets to JKHub to be more 'publicly' hosted and to put our name out there. "Jedi Presents" (working title), with creator consent. I don't want to publish 'everything', but I'd like to hit the highlights of our homegrown Temple maps that we've used for the last fifteen years:
-Alzoc III
-Rannon (potentially both pre/post Void versions)
-Duneeden

There's old folks that are well aware of our community, but this would put our name out there for a lot of newcomers to the JKA scene that are still discovering this rich game after more than twenty years.
