profesions

Post by Xeuus »

i don't know if this is possible but i was looking through wookipedia and i found this big section on jedi professions. there are some interesting ones and i was wondering if these could be added. i will copy them and post them here. if there are any that are good or any that are bad mabye there could be a few. im just wondering but here they are.

Jedi Shadow – a Jedi whose job was to seek out and destroy any sign of the dark side of the Force, the Jedi shadow was the Jedi Order's primary weapon against the dark side up until the Clone Wars. The Jedi Shadow was a Jedi tasked with infiltrating dark side groups and cults to expose them to justice.

Jedi investigator – a Jedi specially appointed by the Council to uncover hidden and obscure threats to the Galaxy such as powerful criminal syndicates, corruption and conspiracy against the Republic and other shady menaces. The Jedi investigator would often work alone and undercover to infiltrate suspicious organizations or would be busy investigating some act of crime.

Jedi archaeologist – a Jedi who had specialized in gaining historical knowledge through archaeology, the Jedi archaeologist was often a member of the ExplorCorps and involved in expeditions of various kinds.
Jedi historian – a Jedi who had specialized in chronicling the history of the Galaxy and the Jedi Order, the Jedi historian knew virtually everything about the past of the Jedi Order.

Jedi librarian – a Jedi who had specialized in administrating vast databases of knowledge, the Jedi librarian was in charge of an important Jedi library, such as the ancient Great Jedi Library, the library of the Jedi Enclave on Dantooine, or the Jedi Archives.

Jedi geologist – a Jedi who had specialized in geology.

Jedi Healer – Some Jedi would focus on the more Humanitarian aspects of the Force, specializing in Force powers based on Force healing. In addition to knowledge of such Force powers, also had extensive knowledge of medicine and medical technology. Jedi healers were normally stationed at the Jedi Medical Corps Infirmary, but would also serve in the field. For instance, around the time of the Clone Wars, Jedi healers would serve aboard MedStar frigates and, occasionally, in Republic's mobile surgical units ("Rimsoos").

Jedi gatemaster – the Jedi who served as the keeper of the main entrance at the Jedi Temple. These Jedi were usually trained in a special way.

Force Warrior – a Jedi who was skilled in a special type of unarmed combat, using meditative martial arts and the Force.

Jedi ace – a Jedi who had specialized in starfighter combat, combining piloting skills with mastery of the Force.

is there any you like?

I personally like more costumization, but all of this can actually be RP'd, so it shouldn't really be in RPMod suggestions. So unless Soh really want to do this, I say there's no need for professions like that. Choose a class that corresponds the most to the profession you'd like, and RP it from there.

I like the idea. Me and Lynee have been giving thought to Roleplaying Jedi Shadows for a while now. So yeah, I'd like to see this as a part of the specialization proccess in JEDI.

Yeah. As stated earlier I don't think this is the kind of stuff that needs to be modded. It's all up to the people roleplaying.

Not to be a negative nancy, but...

Most of these things are from OR Jedi Order, even pre-CW. The NJO didn't have any of these, and still doesn't.

The Jedi Shadow thing is obviously out of date, as it states in the summary that they existed up until the Clone Wars, and they certainly wouldn't exist now, since the common belief of the Jedi Order is that there is do "dark side". So, jedi shadows wouldn't have anything to hunt.

Librarians, gate masters, aces, those were all Old Jedi Order roles. The only thing on that list that existed post-empire in the NJO was a Jedi Healer, the only one coming to mind being Cilghal.

But yeah, this is definitely not a suggestion for the mod, as it'd be pointless to implement. If you want these roles RP them, but I'm just pointing out that canonically, they no longer exist. It'd be like someone living in rome deciding to be a legionaire. They don't exist...

Obviously, these 'professions' would have to be refitted to suit the timeline we are in. I still think it's very much doable. Dark side users and dark cults will always exist in our Roleplay, as such I think it's perfectly natural to have a few Jedi who are specially trained to counter such threats.

The rest of these titles pretty much exist in our roleplay already, just not as strongly defined as whoever suggested it suggested.

But of course, the NJO books were full of pointlessly cool, Jack of all trades characters that could basically do pretty much anything... eg: Coran Horn.

However the point about 'JEDI' canon stands. Most of these roles are REALLY obsolete.

SOME of those roles however, eg the Scholarly ones such as Historian, Archeologist etc would certainly enrichen your personal RP, Master Alkorda could be considered a Jedi Historian (to a certain extent), Knight Sgall meanwhile died on an Archeaological expedition... so this stuff is happening.

When you continue defining your character by game mechanical archetypes, thats all you'll be left to play, an archetype.
While it may not be on purpose, one is tended to think a certain way more: "I'm a Jedi ace, so my only interest should be in ships and flying", limiting the potential for your character, both in fields of interest and evolution, as characters are dynamic, changing with every situation they experience.
Make interesting characters. Sure, bounty hunters, smugglers, brash pilots, gamblers and the rest can be fun, but they get sort of boring after a while.

[...]

Make your characters 3-dimensional. All people have good points and bad points; no character should be only good or only evil. Your Jedi character might have a genetic tendency toward a bad temper, or still harboring thoughts of revenge against a certain group/race for the deaths of his parents. On the other hand, you imperial officer may have a strong sense of honor. What happens when this sense of honor conflicts with imperial orders?

Avoid classes. Classes are excellent to get characters off the ground (brash pilot, smuggler, and young Jedi being the foremost), but you should start deviating from them ASAP. Star Wars defies classes - you can't just call Leia a senator, nor can you just call Han a smuggler. And Luke is CERTAINLY not just a Whining Farmboy. These people are combinations of all sorts of things - one or two traits may stand out, but they all are blended together during game play.
