Public Information
Level of Exposure: <Planet>
- A mining complex on the planet of Baraneth was suffering a dispute between a guild of miners and a crew of smugglers.
- Compounding this issue was a series of accidents and cave-ins that resulted in injuries and deaths. Faulty and outdated equipment is mostly to blame for these incidents.
- A group of Jedi sent to this planet managed to resolve the dispute and save the miners from a cave-in. Mining operations were temporarily halted until the mining complex was safe again.
Jedi Council Clearance
- Master Kuuroc was contacted by Ossus to investigate a disturbance in the Force originating from Baraneth. The source of this disturbance was a cluster of Dark Side crystals.
- The Jedi sent from Duneeden would be meeting a group from Ilum. However, the Duneeden Jedi were given explicit instruction to destroy the Dark Side crystals no matter what, and that the Ilum Jedi received conflicting instructions from their own Sages department.
- The crystals were imbued with darkness. They sought to control the minds of its victims and induce rage and potentially psychosis. The bodies of victims killed from the residual effects of the crystals would be puppeteered in a similar manner to "zombies" from fiction. Severing the strands of dark Force energy connecting the crystals to the corpses was the only effective way of dealing with this threat.
- The crystals were planted a century ago by the Sith Imperium, perhaps looking to cultivate and then later harvest these crystals for their own designs. I understand the Dark Lord of the Imperium attempted to use a giant crystal of his own when attempting to destroy Coruscant. Is it possible the crystal he employed was similar in nature to the ones we discovered?
- The Ilum Jedi continued to attempt to harvest some of the crystals for study. One of them (Padawan Fulora) was overwhelmed by the Dark Side and turned rogue. He was pacified but was injured in the process.
- Master Kuuroc managed to destroy all of the crystals as Fulora was kept busy and Master Mal was incapacitated.
Related Events
Potential: This event may be indirectly linked to the final battle on Coruscant during the Imperium War. Additionally, it is possible that more crystals were planted in other sites across the galaxy.

Summary and Actions
The incident on Baraneth has been handled. No traces of the Dark Side should remain and the miners should be able to repair and re-open their complex with little ongoing issue save for the typical hazards related to daily function. However, it wouldn't hurt to keep an eye on the site for a good while to make sure there aren't any residual echoes, or that there aren't any patches of crystal that were missed.
My recommendations are as follows...
- Observe the Baraneth mining complex for a time to ensure there are no more mysterious accidents or disappearances that could be linked to Dark Side-related phenomena.
- Keep an eye out for any further incidents or disturbances in the Force that may trace back to other crystal patches that were planted by the Imperium in the past. It is recommended to destroy them on sight; they're too dangerous to sample.
