Wilderness Survival

In this class you will be learning the basics of survival in the “wild”. These skills can be used if you find yourself in a remote planet or area and you might need to survive for some time without the regular accommodations we all have come accustomed to. These skills are ones I learned on Nelvaan before my time with the Jedi Order and I trust you will find them useful.

Throughout the course students will be encouraged to mesh together as a team through an abundance of activities and their hands on "examinations", which would take the form of arranged hiking or camping trips in what I would hope to be a variety of locations. Also through the course I hope to instill in students a healthy respect for beings who live a nomadic life and those that prefer the stars as the only roof above their head.

The list of the skills that will be taught include, but are not limited to:

• Basics of Tracking and Land Navigation (Maps, compass, landmarks, stars, orbitals).
• Basics of Survival First Aid (when a Jedi Healer or other “official” materials, such as bacta tanks and patches, are unavailable- with Master Tasia as a possible guest speaker).
• Identifying naturally occurring food or water sources and safely making them consumable.
• Camping and finding suitable shelter from elements.
• Proper attire and equipment for different terrain types and climate.
• Avoidance of/or defense against predatory animals.
• How to beneficially interact with tribal or nomadic societies.

Intro Class

Today, we went over the skills that the class thought would be needed for any sort of survival without your basic accommodations. These skills included finding water and food, swimming, judging your surroundings, building and/or finding suitable shelter, preserving food and water, purifying water, tracking and hunting, land navigation, and many others.

Today’s class covered the basics of camping. The ability to pick and choose a good site to settle into. What one should look for and what one should avoid.

There was a slight changed in class plans today. During today’s class, we did a group assignment. The class was split into two parts, each part was assigned a different terrain; extreme cold and extreme heat. Each team had to think of and then present how best to survive in their terrain.
