Force Speed Improvement (thread 2)

I think Syrena was right, I think we need to improve Force Speed, but I'm going to take it in a different direction.

Is it odd to anyone else that when using Force speed, your pace increases dramatically, yet the speed in which you swing your lightsaber is relatively unchanged?

It seems to me that you should be able to use the Force to increase the speed of your arms as well, even if only a little bit. Our swings don't need to be blurs, but it feels strange trying to fight using level 3 speed and the heavy stance. The painfully slow movement in the swing contrasted with the footwork is really irritating and most likely unrealistic. Thoughts?

The speed ability is focused on the legs, bascially making them go faster.. if you want something that makes your fist or lightsaber swings faster then invest with rage.

Force Speed should not be limited to the physical embodiment, it should be acceptable under controlled circumstances when used in all things bound by the Force.

An alternative would be to have sub classes of Force Speed. I believe this is a lot of work for our poor RPMod programmers.

That's a pretty good point..'Speed' with faster swings would take away the SKILL it takes to control your movement at that speed. I'm With Master Loist, here. Although, 'Rage' is not the most JEDI style ability now is it

Rage isn't a good name in my opinion. It can be manifested as a rage, as when someone starts rageing they do get faster/stronger, but the actual Force power doesn't need to be un-Jedi-like. It's basically a physical enhancing of your abilities, and since it enhances your entire body not the legs, it is tiring and makes you slower aftwerwards.

Doesn't speed enhance punching speed as well? In my opinion it should enhance running, yes, but ALSO kicking.

Simus, as for Force Speed, the use of it with a lightsaber is still dramatically faster than is true for non-Force Speed based saber usage, most particularly if you're using Heavy Stance along with Force Speed. Adding this would simply result in combat-spamming of Force Speed, honestly, and that'd just turn lightsaber sparring into a gaming thing, rather than something that can have a little RP value, too.

Plus, as Master Loist notes, that increase is very much a feature of Rage. I'm not sure if Master Raun is likely to change that particular ability before RPMod is completed (and we could probably do with some clarification on that!), but it's probably better to focus on using that if you want an additional increase in saber movement.

To my knowledge, though, using Force Speed in this manner wasn't what was envisioned when the power was developed for JA - I'd figure it was designed to be something more along the lines of enabling a Jedi to cover distances a lot faster than normal, rather than to spar with it. After all, lightsaber combat is more about control than velocity, and most people can't use Force Speed appropriately in combat anyway, since they forget to account for the increased velocity in addition to normal control

So, yeah, I don't honestly see this one as being necessary.

I'm quite used to how the combat works with Speed.

I'm more in support of this suggestion for Force Speed.

However, both of these threads have one thing in common. They believe something needs to be done to the Force Speed abiltity to be of any worth past rank 1.

Just for a notice on this Thread.. some talked about Force Rage (Fury) and its un-Jedi nature.

Lets throw a thread talking about it.. and the possibilitie on turning it on Force Valor (or Force Mind - A technique most used by Yoda).

I always got slapped on the wrists in RP when I referred to it as "speed".
I personally call it "Sprint".

I sometimes call it 'dash'. But it isn't really a short burst of speed at higher levels so 'sprint' works better.
